The Wisconsin State Herbarium (WIS) houses algae, fungi, lichens, bryophytes and vascular plants, the latter comprising the bulk of the holdings. In addition to the collections profiled below, the herbarium also houses a small seed collection (ca. 500 labeled vials), a winter twig collection (6 cartons), a palynological collection of about 250 slides, each accompanying the sheet from which the pollen was taken, and a separate teaching herbarium located within the plant systematics laboratory.
