With support from the National Science Foundation’s Polar Research Cluster, WIS has been partnering with the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Herbarium to database & digitize specimens of the world’s Arctic and Subarctic lichens, as well as to develop online keys, maps, and species descriptions. 
The two year effort, entitled “Toward Documenting Biodiversity Change in Arctic Lichens: Databasing Principal Collections, Establishing a Baseline, & Developing a Virtual Flora” has resulted in a dedicated Symbiota web portal searchable through the Consortium of North American Lichen Herbaria.
